WCPSS Online Scholarship Guide (Primarily for Seniors ONLY unless specified otherwise)

The John Baker Jr. Scholarship is valued at $500. GPA of 2.8, 950+ Sat score, leadership role, recommendation by faculty, personal statement. ESSAY on given topic required. Applications available in Student Services.

NC Wesleyan College offers A Choral Scholarship. Amounts vary. Can major in any academic area. Must particapte in the Wesleyan Singers. See Mrs. Butler for details.

Wake Tech Community College offers the NCCESA Herter-O'Neal scholarship for a student pursuing an Associate's Degree in Business. The scholarship of $750.00 can be used to help with tuition and books. Please check with the Financial Aid Office at Wake Tech for other valuable scholarship!

American Chemical Society Scholarship
The American Chemical Society Scholars program seeks to encourage the best and brightest African-American, Hispanic, and Native American students to pursue undergraduate degrees in the chemical sciences. Entering freshmen are eligible for up to $2500 per year. For more information and access to the on-line application visit www.acs.org/scholars.


Nate McMillan Education Scholarship
The Nate McMillan Education Scholarship awards $2500 per year for four years to Wake County students who will attend Winston-Salem State University and have a 2.5 GPA, demonstrated financial need, and an SAT score of 950 or higher. Information on the NAVY ROTC Program is available in Student Services.

The Aberthany Scholarship is available for a student pursuing science education through the Education Department at East Carolina. If you have been accepted to East Carolina and plan to be a science teacher, please see Mrs. Butler for details.

Outstanding student athletes: The 11th Annual “Scholar Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year (SAMMY) is available in line at sammy.bodybymilk.com. Criteria are academic performance, athletic excellence, leadership, community service and what role milk plays in your success. You could be the new star in the Milk Mustache ads!!!!!!

Johnson and Wales offers academic scholarships ranging from $7500 to full tuition for high academic achievers. Johnson and Wales offers a variety of degrees! It’s not just a culinary arts school. Check out the list of majors at www.jwu.edu/about.htm. Applications are available in guidance.


Students who have applied to Pfeiffer University are encouraged to check with the Financial Aid Office about a variety of scholarship offers. You may also check with Mrs. Butler in Student Services for a listing.

Students who have applied to Elon should see Mrs. Butler about two unique scholarship opportunities. The Watson is for high achievers with high financial need (Pell Grant eligible) with preference given to first members of a family to attend college. The Eure Scholarship is for strong academic students with high financial need (Pell Grant eligible). See Mrs. Butler for complete details.

The American Legion will host the National High School Oratorical Scholarship Program focusing on the US Constitution. Students must give a prepared oration and speak extemporaneously on a given topic. There are five levels of competition. Students who are successful at the state level compete at the national level for up to $18,000 in scholarship monies. Please see Mrs. Butler in Student Services for full details.

Seniors who are children of disabled, deceased, combat or POW/MIA veterans should see Mrs Butler for important scholarship information available through Wake County Veterans’ Services.
The Elk National Foundation is offering the 2008 Most Valuable Student Scholarships. For information and application, please go to www.elks.org/enf/scholars/MVS.cfm.
