DUAL ENROLLMENT OPTIONS

Middle Creek High School offers a wide variety of courses for enrichment including up to 14 advanced placement courses that provide the opportunity to earn college credit on campus. Students also can conveniently dual enroll at local colleges like Wake Tech Community College and NC State. Now there are additional opportunities for students to pursue high school and/or college credit.

Below are some of the details on these options. For all of these options, we recommend that you talk with your counselor first. CLICK HERE to download the WCPSS Dual Enrollment form. All dual enrollment options require approval by the principal.

1. North Carolina Virtual School

Website: http://www.ncvps.org/

Purpose: The purpose of the NC Virtual Public School is to provide courses that students are unable to take at their local schools. in other words, NCVPS will provide courses that augment a student's local school's program of study.

Who is eligible? Characteristics of students who will be successful include (but are not limited to): self-motivation, ability to learn independently, strong personal commitment and drive, effective communication skills, time management skills, basic computer skills (as evidenced by passing the NC Computer Skills Test), success in previous performance in content area courses (as evidenced by course grades and previous success on standardized tests), and good attendance.

What is offered? High school level courses including honors courses are offered. Courses are only for acceleration. No courses are being offered at this time for credit recovery (ie - repeating a course). CLICK HERE for course offerings at NCVPS. Courses allow students to do work and log into the course at any time. There are no specific hours when you are "in class." Work is completed off campus.

Additional Notes? There are several technical requirements that students must be able to meet for their computer to successfully work with the NCVPS programs. CLICK HERE to see the requirements for your computer system and the basic skills that NCVPS suggests that you have.

Interested students should talk with Dean of Students Anne Coln at acoln@wcpss.net.

2. UNCG iSchool

Website: http://ischool.uncg.edu/dcl/web/ischool/

Purpose: This program offers students an opportunity to take college classes while still in high school.

Who is eligible? Juniors and seniors are eligible. Students should be on track as college-bound students.

What is offered? The courses offered are college-level courses. Given that all courses are 100 and 200 level courses, they all would average in as honors level courses. CLICK HERE for the 2008-2009 course options.

Additional Notes? Students must take these courses on campus during the school day. This requires a staff member be allocated for this purpose. MCHS will wait and assess the demand for this to determine if a staff member can be allocated.

Interested students should talk with Dean of Students Anne Coln at acoln@wcpss.net.

3. Learn & Earn Online

Website: http://www.ncpublicschools.org/learnandearnonline/

Purpose: Qualified students in participating high schools can take a variety of online college-credit courses at no cost to them or to their families. Students can earn high school and/or college credit for completed courses.

Who is eligible? All high school students are eligible, but it is primarily seniors who are far enough in their program of student to participate in these options.

What is offered? CLICK HERE to search for courses offered via Learn & Earn Online.

Additional Notes? Middle Creek is fortunate to be located close to a Wake Tech campus. We anticipate that our students will rarely use the online options because there is such great access to take the classes in person thanks to our great relationship with Wake Tech!

Interested students should talk with Dean of Students Anne Coln at acoln@wcpss.net.
