One of your peers thinks you are a good
MCHS Choir Prospect!
The MCHS Choir experience
will boost your confidence. In our
sixth year of operation, the Choral Department is 130 students strong. Chorus is one of the more popular electives
at Middle Creek. Many choir alumni say
it was one of their best experiences of the high school years.
Some of our accomplishments
include:
§
We have presented Fall,
Holiday and Spring Concerts and spring Jazz Concerts each of the past 6 years.
§
We regularly receive
“superior” ratings at the State Choral Competition.
§
We participated in Wake
County’s All County Chorus Festival.
§
The choir’s student
government, the Choral Council is in full operation.
§
The women’s barbershop
quartets have placed in the top 3 in the last 4 Area-wide Quartet Competitions.
§
Choral students year in
and out make up large parts of the spring musical casts. Musical participants benefit from singing
experience. We have produced Bye Bye
Birdie (03), Grease (04) and The Music Man (05), Into The Woods (06), Guys
& Dolls (07), and Seussical The Musical (08). We are currently working on
Joseph & The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (Performance dates : April 23,
24 & 25, 2009).
§
Dinner and Show
performances
§
Two concert tours to New
York City. We performed at St. John’s
the Divine Cathedral and at the United Nations. We also attended 6 Broadway shows
§
NCMEA State Music Convention
Performance (one of two choirs in the state to perform)

All experience levels are
welcome! Even if you’ve never sung in a
group before or haven’t sung since elementary or middle school, you can still
enjoy participating in a high school choir.
Here are a few reasons:
§
Many successful people
in our world cite music as a memorable high school experience and good place to
develop personality & character.
§
Being a team member of
the choir help you develop SELF-ESTEEM, SELF-CONFIDENCE, LEADERSHIP, and
SELF-EXPRESSION.
§
The Arts are also a
great “Resume Builder” for those of
you who are college bound or who will enter the work force after
graduation.
Many choral students carry academic
loads including Honors and/or AP Level courses. It can be done easily,
especially at MCHS. The BLOCK schedule is good for this
because you have so many elective slots spread out over the course of your high
school career. You can sing and still
explore all your other interests.
Tryouts for the 2009-10 choirs
can still be scheduled:
§
By special appointment.
Contact me at mgilliam@wcpss.net or at 773-3889, or drop by
room 608 at MCHS.
You do not need to prepare any music
in advance for this tryout. All
you need to do is show up.
Hope to see you at the
tryouts,
Mike Gilliam, MCHS Choral
Music Director
