William "Elliott" Jones has been selected for the second year to participate in the Duke Summer on the Edge Program (5/21/09).

On May 16, 2009 Jessica Van Hulst took second place in the high jump to qualify her for the 4A Track and Field Championship on May 23.

Congratulations to MCHS baseball team for defeating Lee County 4-1 and being Tri-8 Conference Champions. The will host the Garner Trojans at 7:00 Thursday night at home.

Congratulations to the MCHS basseball team for defeating Lee county yesterday 9-4. Seniors Trevor McKernie, Chase Martin, Travis Latimore, Eric Florin, Jordan Keen, Max Drisco, and Ben Clark have helped lead the Mustangs this year to great success.

MCHS Earned a poetry achievement award for entries of exceptionally high merit in the biannual Appalachian Poetry Contest: Maya Bullock, Emerald Jones, Kaycee Acevedo, Chelsea Anderson, Lauren Bullock, Tyler Caldwell, Brittani Carter, Tabitha Gray, Jake Harry, Lawanda Hopkins, Leah Howard, Seth Keel, Mallorie Morse, Elaine Pait, Leanne Smith, Jonathan Stewart, and Gil Williams.

MCHS has two fabulous freshman bowlers. Scotty O'Neill finished with the league high average for the men in a league between MCHS and Fuquay HS. Lindsay cox finished with the league high average for women in the same league. (5/5/09)

Anamaria Moreno won first place for high schools in the YWCA Diversity Art Competition (5/6/09).

Brian Wells has been awarded one of only six Centennial Scholarships at North Carolina State University. The Centennial Scholarship is the largest college-based scholarship offered at NC State University and is valued at nearly $48,000. Centennial Scholarships are awarded to the top applicants that are solicited from every North Carolina high school, and various out-of-state high schools. The scholarships are awarded based on demonstrated high academic achievement throughout high school with proven and potential leadership qualities, extracurricular activities and unique life experiences.

The Lady Mustang softball team defeated Fuquay Varina on Friday night by a score of 11-5. Darby Pearce, Heather robb, Heather Stagner, Ashley Watkins, Allison Geiner, and Krystan Coleman led the hitting and defense for the Mustangs as they scored the most runs the Bengals have given up in 5 years (5/1/09).

Prom King is Garrius Adams and Prom Queen is Ebony Baldwin (5/2/09).

Erick Dowell has been awarded the State Employees' Credit Union People Helping People Scholarship Award for MCHS for the 2008 2009 school year - $10,000.

Duke Finley and Eric Ogilvie won the Tri-8 doubles tournament in Tennis (4/29/09).

Girl's Lacrosse had a win over Cary 4/29/09.

This year's SkillsUSA state conference was another successful adventure for MCHS (4/21/09). 26 students went to Greensboro to compete in various competitions and to produce the opening and closing ceremonies. MCHS was among the best in the state winning 5 state championships, finishing in the top 5 of 9 different categories, and placing multiple winners within the same competition in 3 different categories. They are as follows: 1st Place 3D Visualization and Animation - Dylan McGlynn and Chris Thompson, 1st place Advertising Design - Cori May, 1st place Digital Media - Abby Talmadge, Amanda Blazewicz, Marrisa Magusson, Brandon Aaron, 1st place Radio/Audio p Courtney Sezer and Shawn Courts, 3rd place Radio/Audio - Aston Rainey and Lorenzo Surles, 1st place Job Skill Demonstration - Rob Benson, 2nd place Video Product Development - Nick Lilly and Dan Maloney, 3rd place Video Product Development - Logan Richardson and Dexter Montague, 3rd place Extenporaneous Speaking - Dan Gallegor, 4th place Firefighting - Gibson Reynolds, 5th place Firefighting - Steve Cochran, 4th place Graphic Communications - Cassie Rigsbee. Because of their final placement, several of these students have qualified to represent NC at the national competitions in Kansas City this summer.

Track: Taylor Pritchett cleared a school record and regional qualifying height in the women's pole vault at Panther Creek (4/23/09)

Jim Turner and Melissa Verne have been chosen as Finalists for the 2009 Summer Ventures program and will participate at the UNC Charlotte Summer Ventures Program. (4/23/09)

Congratulations to the Mustang baseball team for defeating Cary on Monday against rival Fuquay-Varina last night. The MCHS team is now 3-1 in the conference after defeating the Bengals(3/31/09).

MCHS has five Teaching Fellows for the upcoming 2009-2010 school year. Congratulations to Ashlee Marie Haga, Sara Humphrey, Taylor Lee, Elena Lopez, and Anamaria Moreno.

The National Achievers' Society inducted 27 members on March 31, 2009. Congratulations!

Congratulations to James Turner for being selected by MCHS to attend the 2009 HOBY (Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership) state leadership seminar this summer - July 25 through July 31, 2009.The pretigious program is HOBY's international symposium and intermediate-level seminar converging 400 students from all over the world to further develop their leadership skills and hear from speakers in science and technology, media and politics, world affairs, humanitarian aid, and business.

The women's soccer team defeated rivals Fuquay last night, 3/25, by a score of one to zero. Heather Carew scored a great individual goal off of a pass from Aubrie Gottfried. The defense played a great game with some key saves made by goalkeeper Kate Beyersdorf. Congratulations to the whole team

Troy Dang and Adrian Gilliam have been selected for Governor's School in Choral Music (3/23/09).

Congratulations to Garrius Adams and Tom Tankelewicz for their 106-84 victyory in the North Carolina vs South Carolina All-
Star game. Garrius finished the game with 12 points, while Tom had 14, including an All-
Star record four three-pointers.

The women's soccer team earned a thrilling tie with Apex last night. Courtney White scored the first goal with an assist from MacKenzie Williams. The defense led by Kate Beyersdorf, Heather Carew, Arika Greer, Aubrie Gottfried, and Taylor Hudson held strong against the #5 team in the state. Emily Henderson scored the tying goal with 39 seconds left in overtime. It was an awesome team effort!

Yoatzin Avalos has been selected to attend the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine this summer (Summer 2009). Yoatzin was chosen based on her exemplary academic record, leadership potential, and interest in the field of medicine.
She is a leading galloping mustang!

Carolina Ramos has received a youth program scholarship for attaining the Andrea Bazan Award. She is part of the Latino Youth Fellowship Program and El Pueblo's Youth Advisor Committee.
Carolina is one of our leading galloping mustangs!

Our MCHS Varsity Baseball team defeated Broughton 10-9 on 3/11/09 in a great come from behind win. The Mustangs scored 8 runs in the last inning. Jordan Keen hit a grand slam to help lead the comeback. All contributed to the win.

3/11/09 - Jessica Valhulst qualified for the regional high jump.

Trey Geiger broke our school record and qualified for the regional 800-meter run.

John Turner and Ryan Collinsworth have been chosen as two of the recipients of the pretigious Park Scholarship for 2009. The Park Scholarship, which is valued at nearly $75,000 for NC residents and $130,000 for out-of-state students, pays expenses for four years of study at NCSU and includes a computer stipend and funds for academic enrichment activities.

Congratulations to Middle Creek's Barbershop Quartet Fortune for finishing 2nd in Wake County's Barbershop Quartet 2/23/09. Fortune's members are: Sarah Humphrey, Sarah Richardson, Katie Hockaday, and Christi Powell.

John Turner has received notification that he is among the 250 finalist selected for the 2008-2009 Coca-Cola Scholars Program. This is a great honor and an exceptional opportunity. Congratulations!

MCHS Women and Men's Swimming/Diving team finished 13th in the 2009 State Championship Meet (2/20/09)

Megan Lee has been invited to the 2009 Junior Olympics in Colorado Springs on April 7 & 8th, 2009 to compete in the small bore rifle shooting. She is the 2008 Small Bore Rifle Gold Medalist. Congratulations!

Congratulations to the MCHS track team. Jessica Van Hulst took 7th in the High Jump and Trey Geiger took 6th in the 1600m run on Saturday, 2/14/09 in Chapel Hill.

William Elliott Jones was chosen to attend the UNC Chapel Hill Catalyst Conference. He will attend this conference to discuss current issues in society today that affect high school students. (February, 2009)

Our varsity cheerleaders placed 1st in the Best Dance High School Grand Champions in the Wake County Cheerleading Championship at Knightdale High School on Saturday, February 7, 2009. The junior varsity was best in dance.

2008 - 2009 Woman's Club Competition had 17 first place winners and 14 second place winners in this year's art competition.

Congratulations to the staff of Exclusive Magazine, and especially Krysteah Masteller our editor, for our third Exclusive publication. It was published for free through our community business partnership with Make an Impression (February, 2009).

Chandler Rock won the winter Young Writers Essay Contest. Her essay will be published in their next anthology and she has received a $50 bond. This is our first essay winner (2/4/09).

On 1/30/09 six of our students participated in the Wake County Bowling Olympics and came back with four 1st place ribbons and two 4th place ribbons. Congratulations to Eric LaCross, Bert Liu, Justin Matthews, Zach Paturzo, Justin Craigmiles, and Jessica Smith.

Trey Geiger set the school record in the mile on January 29, 2009 at Leesville Road track meet.

The following students won ribbons at the Fuquay Varina Women's Club in January 2009 - Jessica Gilkey - 2nd place, Chandler Rock - 2nd place, Amelia Hartsough - 2nd place, Emily Horton - 1st place, Lauren bullock - 1st place.

Garrius Adams and Tom Tankelewicz have been selected to participate in the NC/SC All-Star basketball game in Myrtle Beach, SC. The are 2 on only 12 seniors in the state chosen to play in this game.

Michael Williams won the conference Tri-Seven Conference Swim Championship in the 50 and 100 freestyle at the swim meet Saturday, 1/24/09.

Kaiya Arroyo has been chosen as a finalist for the 2009 National Achievement Scholarships.

John Turner has been chosen as a finalist for the 2009 prestigious Parks Scholarship.

Another leading galloping mustang-Rob Benson for his outstanding work in interior design.

Our MCHS art students stole the show at the Fuquay Varina Women's Club annual art show (January 2009). Eighty pieces of work were submitted and forty-two ribbons were won, including Best in Show by Carolina Ramos (an Art II student in Ms. Wiggins' class.

Trey Geiger qualified for the N.C. State Championship for indoor track in the mile this weekend (January 10 & 11, 2009).

Middle Creek High School presented Duke Finley to the Board of Education for high achievement in the face of obstacles the first week of January 2009.

Congratulations to the following MCHS band students who made the Central District All-District bands after auditioning on January 10, 2009 at Orange High School. The students are John McHenry-tuba-symphonic 11-12 band, Alex LeSneer-bair SAX-concert 9-12 band, and Taylor James-flute-symphonic 9-10 band.

Congratulations to Tom Tankewicz. In last night's basketball win over Fuquay, he set a school record by scoring 37 points. He scored 29 points including 7 three-pointers in the first half.

Congratulations to the MCHS Varsity cheerleading squad. The placed first to become the National Grand Champions over the holiday break.

Jessica VanHulst qualified for teh 4A Indoor Track and Field State Championship meet last night by taking 2nd in the high jump and 3rd in the 44 hurdles.

The Varsity Girl's Basketball team made school history last night against Cary with a 87 point win.

Congratulations to the cheerleaders for the Tri-8 Conference Championshing 3rd year in a row, Kristen Athens, Caroline Morris, Jen Pittz, Allie Ehinger, Megan Forte, Lexi Hergeth, Kimmie Krohn, and Allison Shores.

Te'Arrow Hoggard of Raleigh was recently selected to participate in the National's 2008 Miss Jr. Teen Raleigh pageant competition that will take place on December 14, 2008.

Congratulations to the choral department for an outstanding performance last evening during the Holiday Concert.

Troy Geiger qualified for the North Carolina Indoor Track and Field Championship in the 3200 meter run with his 2nd place finish at Cary High School.

Jenna Cherry, Hayley Blake, Ben Lapiana and Fany Montanao, students from Mrs. Miller's Interior Design Class, did an outstanding job decorating the school's Christmas tree in the front office.

Sarah Humphrey, Sarah Richardson, Kate Beyersdorf and Christi Powell sang Wednesday night at the Hurricane's vs. Philadelphia Flyers NHL game.

The Theatre Department did an outstanding job on the fall play "Web of Murder".

The MCHS Cheerleaders placed 1st at an Ultimate Spirit Regional Competition this weekend at Dorton Arena. They will be competing for the Tri-8 Conference title on Thursday, Dec. 11 at Green Hope High. Come and support your Mustang Cheerleaders!

John McHenry tried out for and made the TriangleYyouth Brass Band on the tuba.

Alex LeSueur has been selected as the baritone saxophone player with the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill Youth Wind Ensemble.

Last night out women's swim team tied with Broughton for 1st place. Although our men's team finished 3rd we had a sweeping victory in the 50 Free, Michael Williams swam 22.01 (that's FAST) and in the 500 Free, Ben Miller swam 4:57.89 (that's fast too). This time was a personal best for Ben. Ben exemplified outstanding enthusiasm for his team.

The 1st Special Troop Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division donated a flag flown over Iraq in May to Middle Creek. The flag is on display in the commons.

Middle Creek would like to recognize the following Armed Forces Veterans that work at Middle Creek:

Taylor James won the Raleigh Area Flute Association Scholarship contest in Division 5 last weekend. She will perform on November 14th at Highland United Methodist Church in Raleigh at 7pm. Congratulations to Taylor!

The Middle Creek Mighty Mustang Marching band performed at both the Cary Band Day Parade and Contest on Saturday. Jenny Holder, drum major, and Melinda Pendleton, field commander, won 2nd place drum majors in Class 3A. the band came in 5th place in class after a great performance. We came in 4th place in music performance and drum line.

Troy Geiger qualified for the North Carolina State Cross Country Championship with his 8th place All-Regional team finish.

The following students entered their pottery in this year's State Fair Art competition and won the following awards: Bryan Lee - 1st Place, non-professional division, wheel thrown for his set of stoneware jars glazed with a glaze that he developed. Carolina Ramos - 4th Place, non-professional division, handbuilt and glazed stoneware "chili vase". Mr. Doug Gilliam entered one of his stoneware handled jars and was awarded a mention.

The Varsity Boy's Soccer Team won their Senior Night game defeating conference champions, Panther Creek, 4 to 1. Sam Keel scored 2 goals and had 1 assist. Jake Unger and Matt Frongello each added a goal. Taylor Halley also had 1 assist. All five seniors played great and it was a great win for the program.

Middle Creek has 33 AP Scholars, students who received grades of 3 or higher on three or more AP exams. We would like to recognize the following who are still attending Middle Creek: Kaiya Arroyo, Kristin Athens, Emily Booker, Siegfred Dominado, Cristina Guzman, Kelsey Pittman, Maura Rouse, Courtney Rousse, and Jenna Strucko. There are 16 AP Scholars with Honor, students who averagred 3.5 on all AP exams taken and 3 or more on four or more exams. We recognize: Shannon Cobb, Frederick Dowell, Sarah Phillips, John Turner and Brian Wells. There are 11 AP Scholars with Distinction, students who averaged 3.5 on all AP exams and 3 on five or more exams. We recognize: Ryan Collingsworth.

Congratulations to the Mighty Marching Mustang Band of Middle Creek for their performance this past Saturday, Oct. 18 at the Fuquay-Varina Festival of Bands. The band won the following awards: 3rd Place - Color Guard, 2nd Place - General Effect, 1st Place - Music, 1st Place - Drumline, 2nd Place in Class A missing 1st Place by .5 of a point. Thanks for a job well done.

Troy Gieger finished 2nd at the Tir-8 Conference Championship. he was the highest individual finish in school history. Sheila Delhagen earned all-conference honors for crosscountry via her 12th place finish at the conference championship.

Senior, Courtney Rousse, was names the Tri-8 Women's golf playher of the year yesterday at Prestonwood Country Club. Courtney posted a season scoring average of 36 to lead the conference and won 5 of 8 conference matches this season.

Congratulations to our MCHS Concert Band as well as the Choral group for an outstanding Fall Concert.

Emily Dick has been awarded one of Girl Scouting's highest honors, the Girl Scout Silver Award.

Congratulations to the Mighty Marching Mustangs of Middle Creek High School on a fine performance this past Sat. at Indian River High School in Chesapeak, VA. The band came in 2nd in ensemble-visual, 3rd in general effect visual, 3rd in general effect music. We can in 4th place band in the championship group 2 class by .4point.

Mageleine Rossie has been awarded one of Girl Scouting's highest honors, the Girl Scout Silver Award.

Men's Cross Country defeated Panther Creek led by Trey Geiger and Mitch Turner. The Women's Cross Country defeated Panther Creek by a point led by Sheila Delhagen, Emily Morris and Emily Tracy.

Congratulations to the MCHS Mighty Mustang Band for their performance at the Wakefield High School Heart of Carolina Band Invitational this past Saturday. The band won awards in the following areas: Music - 3rd place and Drum Major in 3rd place. The band came in 4th place overall in Class 2A. Great JOB! Keep up the hard work for your trip to Indian River H.S. in Chesapeake, Va this weekend.

We are pleased to announce that Kristen Danielle Williams has been awarded one of Girl Scouting's highest honors, the Girl Scout Silver Award.

Congratulations to the girls volleyball team for a big win over Fuquay Varina last night. This is the third win in a row for the ladies! Outstanding net play last night by Rachel Ruch, Amanda Blazewicz and Emily Booker with a combined 15 stuff blocks and 23 kills. Awesome digging by Kristen Harvey, Kayla Schuller, Brittany Stewart and Deanna Scarboro. Great all around play by Carson Brewer, Emily Horton and Shannon Cobb. Good Job Ladies! It is senior night next Tuesday, so come out and support your Lady Mustangs while they take on conference rival Lee County!!!!!!!

Heather Robb gave her verbal commitment to the University of North Carolina at Greensboro on September 17 to continue her softball career next year a the division I level. Heather has been playing varsity softball since her freshman year here at MCHS.

Congratulations to the Mighty Marching Mustang Band of MCHS. This past Saturday at Southeast Raleigh High School Bulldog Band Bash the band won the following awards:
1st Place - Drum Major
1st Place - Auxiliary (Color Guard & Majorette)
1st Place - Marching and Maneuvering
2nd Place - Drum Line
2nd Place - Horn Line
2nd Place - General Effect
2nd Place - Class AA overall with an excellent rating.

Recently, the following students were published in the Celebrations anthology for the Appalachian Region: Rischeeda Caldwell, Christa Cooke, Skye Hankins, Meredith Holder, Ebony Holmes and Kathryn Lindquist. There were also three former students published in this anthology.


Tom Tankelewicz, senior basketball player, committed to play for Charleston Souther. Tom will be playing Division I and going to school on a full scholarship.

The Men's and Women's Cross Country teams defeated Lee County. Men led by the trio of Erick Dowell, Mitch Turner and Trey Geiger. Women led by Sheila Delhagen, Emily Morris and Emily Tracy.

Ansley Byers, 11th grade, participated in the highly competetive Summer Ventures in Math and Science program this past summer. While there, Ansley won the "Catalyst Award" for her campus. Because she won this award, she will have the privlege of presenting her research to a group of teachers at the NC Council of Teachers of Mathematics in October.

John Turner and Sarah Phillips are National Merit Semifinalists. Kaiya Arroyo is a National Achievement Semifinalist.

Students commended in the 2009 National Merit Program are Ryan Collingsworth, Benjamin Johnson and Brian Wells.

MCHS won Best in Show for Design at the Raleigh Street Painting Festival. The artist of the design was Haley Bolton and two students who chalked were Melanie Gilkey and Sarah Boykin.

Last night Garrius Adams, a Middle Creek senior basketball player, made a verbal commitment to the University of Miami in Florida. Garrius will sign his letter of intent in November and will attend Miami on a full basketball scholarship.

Kassy Edwards as Sheila and Sarah Richardson as Val in the cast of the Broadway Series South student production of A Chorus Line.

Trey Geiger led the Cross Country team to a win over Cary last night.

We wish to congratulate Sean Doris for earning 35 college hours by his high advanced placement test scores.

Congratulations to John Turner and Sarah Philips for a perfect score on their SAT.

Both the JV and Varsity Soccer teams improved to 4 and 1 on the season with impressive wins last night. JV wom 5-0 and Varsity won 2-0.
