Jessica Van Hulst ran a school record time of 15.58 in teh 100 hurdles to take 7th and Sheila Delhagen also ran school record time of 2:24.02 in the 800 meter run to take 7th.

The women's soccer team recorded it's first every playoff victory last night. meghan Robertson provided the assist on Heather Carew's goal. After 110 minutes of soccer the game was decided in a penalty kick shootout. Emily Henderson, Heather Carew, and Aubrie Gottfried scored their kicks and Katie Broadwell make an outstanding save. Captain Jackie Uhlik buried her shot to force sudden death. After another save by Katie Broadwell, Hope Hanson scored the winning penalty kick. Congratulations to all of the girls on the team and listen for an announcement tomorrow about the date, time, and location of the 2nd round game.

The JV Girl's Soccer Team finished their season with a 2-0 win over Athens Drive. Greyson Smith and Kaleigh Reidy scored goals and Abby Peoples and Delany Stefanski had assists. The team finished with a record of 6-9-4. Congratulations on a great season!

The Varsity Girl's Soccer Team defeated Athens Drive 1-0 on Senior Night. The victory made the night very special for our 11 seniors, and qualified the team for the state playoffs.

The Lady Mustang Softball team defeated Panther Creek 10-1 on Monday to win the Tri-8 conference champinship. This is the 1st regular season championship for the Lady Mustang Softball Program. The ladies currently have a record of 20-2 and will be playing at home Tuesday, may 13th in the 1st round of the NCHSAA state playoffs.

Ben Bagwell, Manny Centeno and Todd Ringenberg helped build a house for Habitat for Humanity for a family in need.

Jessica Van Hulst took 4th in the region in the 100 hurdles with a schol record time of 15.75 and Sheila Delhagen took 2nd in the region in the 800 meter run with a school record time of 2:24. Both will compete at the NCA&T in Greensboro at the State Championship.

MCHS received the 2008 NCT Capital Awards for Outstanding Musical for Seussical The Musical. They received outstanding in musical direction, sound, lighting design, costume design, stage crew and technical execution, ensemble and supporting actress, Sarah Richardson

The softball team defeated Fuquay-Varina by a score of 3-0. Fuquay was currently the 5th ranked team in the state, with the Mustangs being 8th. This puts the team in a tie with Fuquay for the lead in the Tri-8 conference with 3 games left.

The Tri-Eight Conference Meet guys 1600 meter relay team of Mark Mwaura, Jordan Ferrell, Nate Harris and Josh McLeod took 2nd place with a time of 3:26 which is a second off of the school record. Josh McLeod also took second in the open 400 meter dash with a school record time of 50.4 seconds. Then for the girls Jessica Van Hulst took 3rd in the 100 hurdles with a time of 16.3 as well as being name Conference Champion in the high jump with a jump of 5 feet.

Congratulations to the baseball team for their win over Fuquay-Varina.

Ansley Byers, Frederick Dowell, Heather Newman, and Emily Tracy have been accepted into the Summer Ventures Program.

Skills USA State Conference Winners: 1st place State Champions in Digital Media: Jeff Hudock, Jessica Tate, Marco Asayus-Garcia,Todd Ringenberg. 1st place in Audio Production (Radio): Ryan Grover and Richard Dinkel. 1st place in Video Product Development: Cooper Reaves and Nate Harris. 2nd Place in Audio Production: Kelley Johnson and James Pasternak. 3rd place in Web Design: Ki Bishop and Ryan Wood. 4th place in Television Video Production: Brandon Aaron and Junior Carter. 5th place in Advertising Design: Courtney Leach.

Congratulation to the following students for being awarded the NC Teaching Fellows Program: Rachael Beckner, James Carter, Dillon Redding and Kirby Treadaway.

Kevin Jones created a baseball program for Middle Creek and was acknowledged for outstanding acheivment in graphic design and digital media.

Christopher Jasinski has been chosen to represent MCHS at the Legislator's School for Youth Leadership Conference at East Carolina University along with alternate, Ashley Klein.

Ryan Collinsworth has been named the most outstanding student in American History at Middle Creek High by the social studies department.

Congratulations to the Men's Baseball team for winning the Johnston County Easter Invitational.

The final selections were made for the Governor's School 2008. In Choral Music Kathleen Beyersdorf, Sarah Doering, Katherine Hockaday, Tyler Oakley and Susan Pietroluongo were selected.

Ty Kenney ptiched a no-hitter shut-out vs. Sanderson High School with 10 strike outs. The JV Baseball team beat Sanderson 20-0 last night and improved their overall record to 7-1-1.

The members of the choir and drama departments went to New York City to perform at The United Nations.

The Middle Creek Softball team defeated Apex on Tuesday night to remain undefeated in the Tri-8 concerence. Beth Anne Kleekamp pitched a no hitter and was 2 for 3 hitting and drove in borth Middle Creek runs in the 2-0 hard fought victory.

Ebony Baldwin was selected among a few to an all-expence paid, two-night program for high-achieving students, Project Uplift.

Congratulations to Rob Benson for 1st place and Jessica Conley for 2nd place at the Prom Fashion Show for theKey Club fundraiser.

Ricsheeda Caldwell has been nominted to attend the National Yough Leadership Forum on Law to be held in Washington, DC this summer 2008.

Congratulations to our 3 singing choral ensembles, The Mixed Ensemble, The Choral Ensemble, and the Women's Chorale. These choirs competed last week at the NC State choral music competition in Raleigh earning 5 superiors and 1 excellent rating. Superiors are the highest rating possible.

The MCHS Bands went to Central District Bandmasters Festival this week. The Concert Band went on Monday and received an excellent rating in Grade IV. The Symphonic Band went on Tuesday and received a superior rating in Grade V.

Tabitha Frahm and Erick Herrera Pineda represented Middle Creek High as Gold Participants at the 25th Anniversary of Pieces of Gold.

Mary Goodnight (12th grade), clarinet and John McHenry (10th grade), tuba made the NC Honors Band this past weekend. The event will be held at the NC School of the Arts in Winston-Salem on April 25, 26 and 27th. Congratulations!

Ryan Grover and Jeff Hudock were on 850 The Buzz Sunday morning as they hosted a new talk radio show called The On Deck Show. It is the 1st radio program to showcase local high school and college students.

Congratulations to all the students to a successful Open-MIC night and a special thanks to Christina DeStefano for putting the event together.

Middle Creek & Athens Drive German students & German Club students attended a German Day competition at Elon University. Natlie Spicher, exchange student at Middle Creek, won 2nd place in poetry recital- Heritage Speaker Division.

Beth Anne Kleekamp was recognized by the Raleigh Sports Club on Wed., March 5th.

Congratulations to the Men's Basketball Team for a program of greatness. They displayed heart, discipline, intelligence, and determination. Also a special thanks to Coach Kushner and staff, Mr. Burniston and trainers, Mrs. Ehinger and all the cheerleaders as well as the Classy Creek Crazies!

Suesical The Musical was a smash hit! Quotes from Mr. Williams included "Excellence, great God-given talent, professional singing, passionate acting, spirited dancing, stunning technical effects, glittering costumes, extra ordinary orchestra". Thanks to all who made the musical a success!

The 2007-08 basketball season was the best in Middle Creek history for the women's basketball program. The team achieved a record 14 wins on the season. The Lady Mustangs finished in 3rd place in the Tri-8 Conference with a 10-4 record, it's highest finish since joining the conference. Middle Creek achieved a birth in the NCHSAA State Playoffs for the second consecutive season. Emily Booker was named to the Tri-8 All Conference team and Sarah Cox and Amber Battle were named Honorable Mention All Conference.

*Garrius Adams was named the tri-8 player of the year
*Kip Kelley and Nelson Kirksey were nominated for the McDonald's All-American game
*The eight seniors on this team have helped to compile an overall record of 46-10 over the past two seasons.

Students from Mr. Hoyes 2nd block ICM class raised money to purchase a new bike for "Johnny Z". Jonathan Zaharin recently was injured while riding his bicycle to school and remarkably recovered due to his wonderful spirit.

Jessica Van Hulst placed 7th overall in the high jump at the UNC for teh 4A Indoor Track and Field State Championship.

The following students are recognized as regional semi-finalist Teaching Fellows candidates: Rachael Beckner, James Carter, Parker Page, Dillon Redding, Megan Towell, and Kirby Treadaway.

Congratulations to our quartet "Fortune" for finishing 2nd in the County Quartet Championship. Members are Sarah Humphrey, Sarah Richardson, Christi Powell and Katie Hockaday.

Erick Herrera Pineda, 12th grade, received top honors in the Wake Educations Partnership and Wake County School's sponsored Arts exhibit Pieces of Gold.

Mitchell James and Nicolette Rossmell has been recognized as finalists in the 2008 competition for National Merit Scholarships.

Brandon Dressen, Stephanie Barnhouse, Alex LeSeur, John McHenry, Dillon Redding and Mary Goodnight took part in the 2008 All-District Honor Bands in Concert.

The varsity cheerleaders won the 4th in a row as Wake County Champs in the Tri-8 competition. The JV's won 3rd place.

The Refections Contest council results for 07-08 are in. There were 205 winners out of 734 entries council-wide. We are proud of all (19) MCHS students who entered this year's contest, the (10) MCHS winnders, and especially proud of the (7) MCHS finalists who advanced to the Council level. We congratulate the Council level winners: Taylor White placed 3rd in the Photography category, and Sarah Boykin recieved an Honorable Mention in the Visual Arts category after placing 1st in their respective categories in our school level competition on Dec. 21. These two students who represent Middle Creek's excellence, will be attending a reception held in their honor at Millbrook High School on March 18th, along with their families and teacher.

The Art Deparment is proud to announce that we have three Gold Key Scholastic Art winners this year. Leah Snyder, BAM Bottle, Bryan Lee, Wicked Smile and Nicole Murphy, Strawberry Fields Forever.

The following MCHS band students auditioned on Saturday at Soutwest Guilford High School in High Point and made the Central District All-District bands: Mary Goodnight- clarinet, Dillon Redding - trumpet, Stephanie Barnhouse - bass clarinet, Brandon Dressen- trombone, John McHenry - tuba, Alex LeSher -baritone sax. Congratulations to these students for their hard work.

Who's Who Among Outstanding Student selected MCHS freshman, Jim Turner, to receive a $1000 college scholarship from teh American Who's Who Association and teh Student Scholarship Foundation.

Congratulations to the MCHS Varsity Cheerleaders for winning the Tri-8 championship last night at Fuquay High School. Also congratulations to: Heidi Macht, Kristen Athens, Allie Ehinger, Sherrena Frazier and Sarah Siebach for making Tri-8 All-Conference.

Congratulations to a great MCHS Baseball Team. They received State Awards in final ranking in NC 4A Baseball Poll #6 and All State with Landon Adams, Quincy Latimore and Tyler Woods. The following alumni now playing baseball in college: Michael Caddell, Graham Chapman, Ryne Cole, Bobby Fowler, Michael Frongello, Cameron Rollins, Tyler Wood and Quincy Latimore.

The Middle Creek Fine Arts Department presented the Choral Ensembles in their Holiday Concert last evening. The ensembles did a fabulous job.

Congratulations to Nicolette Rossmell for being selected as a semifinalist for teh Morehead-Cain Scholars Program.

The following students have been nominated to move forward in the Governor's School process: Kelsey Pittman, Jenna Strucko, Tyler Oakley, Adrian Gilliam, Katherine Hockaday, Sarah Doering, Heidi Macht, Susan Pietroluongo and Kathleen Beyersdorf.

Congratulations to Pam Revak and Mitchell James. They recently made a perfect score on the SAT.

The swim teams took first place, both men and women at their 1st meet against Garner, Southeast Raleigh and SSS. The girls wom by 100 points and multiple people qualified for regionals.

Congratulations to our HOBY finalist: Matt Frongello and Ansley Byers as alternate.

Congratulations to Katie Park, Steve Bissette, Jolie Mitchell and Deborah Karpel for becoming National Board Certified Teachers.

Sarah Phillips represented Middle Creek High in the Summer Ventures program on the ASU campus this past summer.

Job well done last evening at the Tri-High Choral Festival. Middle Creek' Concert Chorus as well as Apex High and Garner High did an outstanding peformance.

Cara Carulo, Brittany Scuotto, Nicole Almond, Logan Richardson, Jeremy Bugbee, Ethan Herring, Mr. Maldonado and Mr. Petty created a memorial DVD to honor John Buchanan.

Congratulations to the cast and crew of the presentation of The Crucible for a job well done.

The 2007 Wendy's High School Heisman Award goes to Elizabeth Kleepkamps. She is recognized as student-athlete for areas in academics, athletics and community involvement.

Trey Geiger and Mitch Turner qualified for the state meet in cross country by finishing very well at the Regionals.

MCHS Junior, Courtney Rousse finished 2nd in the NCHSAA State Golf finals. this event featured the top 60 golfers in the state that had previously qualified at a regional event. MCHS Senior, Jacquelyn tanner was also a regional qualifier and participated in the state tournament as well. This is the 1st time in MCHS ladies golf history that we have had more than 1 qualifier and is the highest individual finish also.

Sarah Cox won the Mideast Tennis Regional last week. This made her a number one seed in the state tournament. Sarah advanced all the way to the State semi-finals on Saturday afternoon. Sarah has had a tremendous senior season with her success in the state tournament and winning the Conference Player of the Year.

Congratulations to the Varsity Football team for earning the title of the Tri-8 Conference leaders after defeating Athens Drive High School. Commendation to the players, coaches, trainers, cheerleaders, and Creek Crazies.

Congratulations to our digital media class for their outstanding show at the Apple Store. The students that participated were Ryan Grover, Jeff Huddock, James Pasternak, Cooper Reeves, Dick Dinkle, Kevin Jones, Joe Formicola and Todd Ringenburg.

The Mighty Marching Mustangs received 1st place - Musicianship, 1st place - General Effect, 2nd place - Visual Effect

Halina Langrod was nominated as the 2007-2008 MCHS Teacher of the Year.

Carrie Jones was nominated as the NC Marine Science Teacher of the Year.

Chris Loehr, 9th grade student, won Grand Champion Turkey at the 2007 NC State Fair. The 48 pound turkey was auctioned off at the Sale of Champions and sold for $5000., which all goes to Chris.

Congratulations to the Mighty Marching Mustangs for placing in the following at the 2007 West Johnston High School Band Invitational: 1st - General Effect (Visual Performance), 1st - Muscianship, 2nd - Drum Major, 2nd - Percussion, 2nd - Colorguard.

Congratulations to Mark Mwaura for receiving the WRAL Extra Effort Award!

Middle Creekwas the only team in the conference to have all six of their players, Beth Hopper, Katie Pritchard, Grace Burton, Alison Flanagan and Sarah Cox, qualify for reginals. Sarah also won the Single Conference Title and captured Player of the Year honors in the conference.

The Lady Mustang golf team finished 2nd in a Tri-8 conference match at Sanford Golf Club. Leading the way was math medalist, Courtney Rousse with 3 under par. Leslie Becker had a 49 and Jacquelyn Tanner had a 51. This was the ladies highest finish in school history.

Kellen Blair subbessfully completed a one-week summer portion of the 2007 Photonics Xplorers Program held at NC State University..

Well done to all art students who entered a beautifully pointed horse in a contest sponsored by the NC State Fair. Cast your vote today for "Twisted Mister" at www.ncstatefair.org.

Maleek Brown successfully completed the four-week summer portion of the 2007 Photonics Leaders Program Summer Session.

Congratulations to the Mighty Mustang Marching Band for their performance at Southeast Raleigh High School. The band won 1st place.

Justin Longoria has auditioned for and made the Triangle Youth Jazz Ensemble as their drummer. He also has been selected to attend the National Youth Leadership Forum on Law in Washington, DC in November.

Shannon Cobb represented Middle Creek High at the Global Young Leaders Conference in Washington, DC and New York, NY for two weeks this past summer.

Congratulations to 19 top students from the theatre arts program who were inducted into the International Thespian Society.

Congratulations to Greg Bice who received the Major League Lacrosse Sportsman of the Year Award for this season. His team played in the championship game in which they lost a close battle 16-13. Our students were very fortunate to have had him as their mentor/coach.

Middle Creek High School Newspaper was names as an Honor Newspaper for the state of NC for the second year in a row by the N.C. Scholastic Media Association Newspaper Competition. We also received statewide honorable mentions in the categories of news writing and advertising.

Patrick Post has earned the Eagle Scout Award.

William Jackson and Brett Humphreys have displayed exemplary citizenship.

Sarah Richardson and Alec Kelsey will represent Middle Creek High in the upcoming WPSS Broadway Series South production of Les Miserables on September 28 & 29 at Memorial Auditorium.
