Attendance Goals for 2009

Regular attendance is critical to student achievement. Presently, the average daily membership at our school is 93%. We can improve this attendance rate for the good of our students by at least 3%. Here are the main points to improve attendance.

Students must bring a note to the attendance office following any absence from school. This note should state the reason for the absence and the date of the absence, with your signature.

The classroom teacher will contact the student’s parent/guardian the second day after the student returns to school from an absence if the student has not provided a note from a parent for the absence. We are required to document the reason for an absence. Also, failure to bring a note will result in a disciplinary referral to an administrator.

If your child is absent for five total days for any reason, you will be asked to have a conference at the school to write a plan to improve attendance. If your child accumulates ten days of absences for any reason in any class, the student may fail the course, regardless of the grade.

This policy and these procedures are not new. They are written in the student handbook and in policy approved by the Wake County Board of Education.
